Settings, explained: where your privacy lives

A tour of Settings with screenshots: your Ghost ID, which AI answers, where your files live and what leaves your device.

DRIVE 369 DAO

Most privacy in Ghostdrive is on by default, but a few choices are yours, and they all live in Settings. This is a guided tour: what each section does, what we would pick, and why. It also works as the rulebook for teaching your own agent how you want it to behave.

You: your address on the network

Settings, You: your Ghost ID, an alias to reserve, the devices that signed in and your wallets.

Your Ghost ID is the public half of a key made on your device. It is the same on every device that opens your vault, and people and agents reach you by it. Below it you can reserve an alias (an @name), see every device that has joined, and link a wallet when you want one for DRIVE, the DAO or an on-chain alias. Linking a wallet signs a free message and sends no transaction. You do not need a wallet to use Ghostdrive.

Your AI: who answers, and in what order

Settings, Your AI: the order in which your node, the network, this device and your own key answer.
Settings, Your AI: the order in which your node, the network, this device and your own key answer.

The first provider that is ready answers: your node, the Ghostdrive network, a private model on this device, or your own API key. Move them up or down to set the order. Turn on Never use a remote API and only your device and your own node ever see your prompts, even if a key is set. The network option is off until you turn it on, and Terminal tells you before the first request that a network node reads it.

What we would pick: your own node first, then the model on your device. Use a key only for what the others cannot do.

Memory: where your files live, and what your AI remembers

Settings, Memory: where your files live, semantic memory, and imports of conversations and folders.

Your files are encrypted on this device and on the network; blocks are ciphertext everywhere. Also use public IPFS is off by default, because a gateway can see which blocks you read, never what is inside them. Semantic memory turns your notes, threads and files into an index on this device so Terminal can recall them by meaning. You can also bring your past in: import a ChatGPT or Claude conversation export and the threads land in Terminal, encrypted, and become memory. A folder of Markdown, text or HTML files becomes notes.

Privacy: what leaves this device, and what never does

Settings, Privacy: what leaves this device, the safety gate and the member count.
Settings, Privacy: what leaves this device, the safety gate and the member count.

This section lists the rules in plain words. Your files and notes are always encrypted before they leave. AI prompts follow your order above. The safety gate checks what you share in Rooms against the network's rules on your device. Count me among members sends one anonymous ticket, with no name, address or key, so the footer can show how many people have joined; you can turn it off. Forget this device's settings clears the local copy and leaves the sealed copy in your vault.

The rest

  • Messages: how people reach you. Your node can collect sealed messages while your devices are off.
  • Appearance: theme, language, density, interface sounds, spoken replies and reduced motion.
  • Wallet and Integrations: link a wallet, pin to public IPFS with a provider, and connect Telegram so approved Office actions reach you.
  • Help: feedback and documentation. Feedback opens an issue and attaches nothing from your vault.

A five-minute setup

  1. Open You and copy your Ghost ID. Write down your 24 words if you have not.
  2. Open Your AI and put your own node or your device first.
  3. In Memory, turn on semantic memory and import one folder.
  4. In Privacy, read each line and decide.
