Ghostdrive for Mac: Finder, Touch ID and your own node

The Mac app puts an encrypted Ghostdrive volume in Finder, unlocks with Touch ID and runs a node beside the window.

DRIVE 369 DAO

The Mac app is the web app in a sandboxed native window, with the Ghostdrive node running beside it. It is in beta, and its builds are not yet signed.

What it adds

  • Ghostdrive in Finder. An encrypted volume sits under Locations, next to iCloud Drive. Drop a file in and it is sealed into your vault and appears in Drive on every device. Add a file in Drive anywhere and it appears in the volume.
  • Touch ID. A device secret sealed in the macOS Keychain unlocks your vault, so you do not type 24 words each day. The words stay your backup.
  • A node by your side. The node keeps your data in step and serves your AI, mail and MCP from your own machine.
  • A terminal dock for working next to your files.

How the Finder volume is protected

It is an encrypted APFS disk image, AES-256, up to 1 TB and growing as files arrive. Its key is 32 random bytes made on this Mac, sealed in the Keychain for this app. It is never shown and never synced. It is not derived from your 24 words, so someone who has the words but not this Mac cannot open the volume; they get your files from the vault instead.

Use case: a person who lives in Finder

You do not want another app. You drag a folder of tax documents onto Ghostdrive in Finder. They are sealed, synced to your other devices and kept by your node, and you did nothing special.

Use case: a person with two Macs

You open the same vault on a laptop and a desktop. Each has its own encrypted Ghostdrive volume in Finder, kept in step with your vault, and each one's key lives only in that Mac's Keychain. If one Mac is lost, the other keeps working and the lost one's volume stays sealed.

Status and limits

Beta, macOS only, unsigned builds. The app treats its own window as untrusted: a sandboxed renderer, no direct access to Node, and code loaded only from the app itself. Because the builds are unsigned, macOS asks for extra confirmation before it opens them. Expect rough edges.
